Enigma String Quartet is a professional group established in 1995. After graduating from Birmingham Conservatoire the quartet quickly became established as a professional group giving concerts, performing at weddings, corporate events, outdoor shows and festivals.
As a quartet they perform regularly for a variety of private and public occasions and their recording work has included playing on albums by Richard Hawley and Scott Matthews. They have performed live on many occasions with Irish singing sensation Imelda May as well as rock legend Roy Wood (The Move, Wizzard).
They were featured on the BBC television soap ‘Doctors’ and enjoy a close association with record producer, composer and string arranger Jon Cotton of Poseidon Music. In 2009/10 they recorded incidental music with Jon at his Artisan Studios for the sound track to the British feature film ‘Nativity’ which starred Martin Freeman and Ashley Jensen. Regular corporate clients have included Birmingham Royal Ballet and Birmingham City Council and are quartet in residence at Moor Hall Hotel, Sutton Coldfield and Swinfen Hall Hotel, nr Lichfield.
The ensemble members freelance with orchestras including The Royal Ballet Sinfonia, Southern Sinfonia, Opera North, Orchestra da Camera and Midland Sinfonia. They have played in string sections backing artists including Alfie Boe, Il Divo, Alison Balsam Collabro, Katherine Jenkins, Russell Watson, Smokey Robinson, Johnny Mathis, Barry Manilow, George Benson, The Proclaimers Led Zeppelin Masters and Gloria Estefan at venues such as The Royal Albert Hall, Symphony Hall, The O2 Arena and in theatres for touring West End productions such as Les Miserables, Miss Saigon, The Sound of Music and The Producers.
Enigma String Quartet are delighted to have been invited back many times to give recitals as part of the Midland Sinfonia concert series in Alvechurch. Over the years they have performed concerts from Mozart, Schubert and Shostakovich to Gilbert & Sullivan, The Sound of Musicals, A Night at The Movies and a Spanish Spectacular.
